Mothering Wildlife
Telling the stories of moms who work in zoo, wildlife, vet, and conservation organizations. Working with wildlife brings a unique set of challenges for working mothers. Join me weekly as I interview moms working primarily in the zoo field as we discuss their journey as moms, navigating the mental, emotional, and often physical challenges that come with caring for wildlife and caring for kids.

Moms as Managers, Normalizing Support in the Workplace with Nikki Smith, Columbus Zoo and Aquarium
As a new mom in the workplace, having a supportive manager upon your return can make a time in life that feels chaotic and hard, feel calmer and give you more confidence. At a time when your routine is completely different than it was months ago, you’re potentially navigating pumping, and emotions are running high, a good manager can make all the difference.
My guest this week, Nikki Smith, tries to provide this support for her staff. She had an amazing manager when she was a young mom that made all the difference and now she’s paying it forward.
Nikki and I also talk a lot about the zoo industry in general, so it's a great episode for the best of both worlds!
